    Tangible radio

    A classic Interaction Design pressure project

     

    In this project we will be designing the interaction for real-time sound media. Radio is one of the oldest and most nostalgic consumer technologies. The radio is rapidly changing. Today there are thousands of radio stations that we can listen to over the internet, which could be segmented by language, geography, special interest, music genre, navigation style (musical association, harmonic recognition music on demand). This is a very different reality to analogue radio that is limited by the range of the transmitters and available bandwidth. This unlimited choice brings problems to how we might interface with so much information. One radio can no longer serve all. Everyone can receive and transmit.

     

    Whilst the design of mechanical objects can show their working through their form, electronic objects are usually designed according to the ‘black box’ paradigm. With electronic objects there is no obvious form to reveal their functioning, the electronic components themselves actually mask their function. This was explored in the seminal ‘radio in a bag’ design by Daniel Weil, which shocked design audiences in 1983. But, with electronic objects, it is the interface that must be revealed through form. As Gillian Crampton-Smith proclaimed “The form of the device is the interface”.

     

    The interaction designers role is to conceive a form that suggests the objects use, that creates meaning and metaphor, through the shape, colour, texture, materials and interactive behaviour. Alongside more traditional design skills, computer programming and simple electronics are used as a sketching tool for interactive behaviour. Video can also be used to sketch scenarios. But it is no longer simply a matter of creating an object that is clear easy to use, but the challenge is to create an interface that can offer a deeper aesthetic relationship and multiple layers of meaning.

     

    -          the object shall be interesting (novel) to use

    -          the content, form and interaction shall be a coherent whole

    -          the choice of using a screen and buttons should be clear

     

    During the atelier, students will be researching:

     

    -          Physical objects offer advantages and disadvantages over visual interfaces

    -          The cultural history of radio, the evolution of its form, use and meaning

    下面是我做的Project的截图,我是用flash完成整个介绍的.结合了魔方色块组合的偶然性以及可玩性,

    我的收音机主要通过它的录音功能和网络传递功能构架出整个体系,

    在这个网状地平台上改变了以往发射式的公共信息传播方式,

    每个人既是一个信息发布人也是接收人,它更个人更随机更神秘.

    简单来说外型就是一个传统的6色魔方

    有六个颜色,你可以自由组合颜色来定义你要录音的内容.

    你可以录音下旅行中的声音,讲述一个小故事,自己写的一段小音乐,一个谜语.....所有可能性.

    每个颜色都会有一个录音按纽,一共六个录音按扭,

    你选择哪个颜色的录音按纽,你的录音内容将被分类到为这个颜色为主色调的录音类别中.

    还有一些小的细节的功能就不解释了,看图吧~

    同样每个颜色都会有一个收听按纽,一共六个收听按扭,

    你选择哪个颜色的收听按纽,你将通过无线网络收听到这个颜色分类的录音内容.

    根据你按的收听按纽当时所处的面的颜色组合作为搜索录音的线索.

    你还可以收听完一个录音后通过录音按扭回复.

    这个是一个外接模块的图解,跟很多数码产品一样,揭开一块里面是很多外接口.

    这个图解是对颜色组合,和主颜色面和次颜色面的解释.因为在网络上主要是通过颜色来搜索录音和定义录音的.

    这个是电台网站的图解,每个颜色都会有一些关键词,大家可以自由添加,根据数量的递增关键词的面积会增加.

    下面的空间是个人的自定义空间,导航里面有,最近输入的录音,历史录音,收藏夹,朋友,帮助,这几项.

    这个图解是以红色为例子的录音搜索截面.用proseccing即时统计每天每星期每月的,

    在红色录音按纽下的录音文件量,和最近的主面颜色组合,

    所以数据和颜色模块是一直在跳动的.

    通过主面颜色的递增细化来完成录音的搜索,

    你可以搜索到跟你在同一个颜色组合面下的录音,

    也可以自定义颜色来选择录音.

    选择一个颜色组合面后,系统读取录音文件,播放,并提供录音文件一些参数.

    你还可以通过电脑或者通过连线的魔方回复录音里的内容.

     

    潦草的解释了一下,不知道能不能理解,我用法语竟然把这么复杂的功能解释清楚了我都佩服自己.如果这个东西真的存在你们会有兴趣去玩么?我自己是挺有兴趣去买一个的哈哈.

    班级里大家的概念和出发点都很不同,有用鸡蛋盒的厨房收音机,橡皮筋震动的,根据跑步节奏调频的,Ipod分享音乐的,儿童手腕的,小模块堆积的,全手工的,减肥的,五花八门...两个星期从分析概念到定方向到制作很有条理的进行.只是我的工作量让他们吓了一跳,谁叫我是干活神速的flash红呢......
